LONDON (AP) — Chelsea had a poor week, crashing out of the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain and drawing in the Premier League against Southampton on Sunday, despite this athletic overhead kick from Diego Costa, who scored Chelsea’s only goal. The London club was heavily criticized for the behavior of its players in surrounding referee Bjorn Kuipers to protest at a decision.
Bundesliga side Schalke almost performed a miracle, beating Real Madrid 4-3 away from home in the Champions League, but the German team fell short by one goal after losing the first leg 2-0. Klass-Jan Huntelaar scored two classy goals but they weren’t enough.
In the Slovenian mountains, Austria’s Marcel Hirscher finished second to seal the season’s discipline title with a race to spare. A long way south, In Chad, AP captured images of the weekly horse racing held on a dusty track outside the capital N’Djamena. The festival in Cheltenham, England, often sees its fair share of falls during competition and this year’s racing was no exception.
In London, England beat Scotland in the Six Nations tournament and the short track speed skating World Championships were held in Moscow.
