AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) —
Gordon Hayward scored 17 points, including four in the final 2 minutes, and Derrick Favors added a double-double as the Utah Jazz overcame a double-digit, second-half deficit to beat the Detroit Pistons 97-96 Sunday night.
Hayward’s 3-pointer gave the Jazz a 96-94 lead with 2:00 to play. After Brandon Jennings missed a 3-pointer at the other end for Detroit, Hayward split a pair of free throws to make it a three-point game.
After the teams traded misses, Greg Monroe’s layup pulled Detroit within 97-96, and Hayward missed a chance to clinch the game from behind the arc with 4.6 seconds to go.
Jennings, who had a game-high 23 points, got off an open floater from the free-throw line, but the ball banked harmlessly off the left side of the rim.
Favors finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds for Utah, while Enes Kanter had 14 points and 11 rebounds. Monroe (19 points and 11 rebounds) and Andre Drummond (11 points and 18 rebounds) both had double-doubles for Detroit.
