DALLAS (AP) — Kari Lehtonen stopped all 33 shots, including a penalty shot, for his fifth shutout this season and 32nd of his career, and the Dallas Stars defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 4-0 on Saturday night.
Patrick Eaves, Tyler Seguin, Shawn Horcoff and Jason Spezza scored for Dallas. Alex Goligoski set up two of the Stars’ goals as they won their second straight game and seventh in their last nine.
The Blackhawks had been 6-0-1 in their previous seven games.
Lehtonen turned away Brandon Saad’s backhander on a penalty shot 7:13 into the third period. The penalty shot was the first Lehtonen faced this season and came after Jordie Benn tripped Saad.
Goligoski passed to Eaves for the game’s first goal at 9:36 of the first period. He also took the shot that Horcoff tipped in for the third goal at 6:02 of the third.
The Stars were 2 for 3 on the power play, with Seguin and Horcoff scoring with the man advantage.
Corey Crawford had 25 saves for the Blackhawks.
Chicago was on the power play twice in the first eight minutes, but the Stars killed both penalties. The Blackhawks didn’t have another power play in the game.
Dallas had only two shots on goal until Eaves scored.
Seguin scored at 16:02 on the Stars’ first power play. Spezza sent the puck from high in the right faceoff circle to the front of the net, where Jamie Benn tipped it. The puck went out to Seguin skating down the slot, and he scored when Crawford couldn’t get back in time to stop the shot.
Both teams had good chances in the second period but couldn’t score.
