Bowl games for everyone: The 2014 edition!

Dec 17, 2014, 4:09 PM | Updated: 4:09 pm

Back in 2008, the Arizona State Sun Devils, then coached by Dennis Erickson, limped through a 5-7 season and failed to qualify for a bowl game.

There’s really only one thing worse than playing in some mid-December bowl game with a corporate sponsor you’ve never heard of — and that, of course, is not playing in some mid-December bowl game with a corporate sponsor you’ve never heard of.

To combat this, I decided I would create bowl games for all the teams that didn’t get invitations — a sort of participation trophy for all FBS college teams.

That year, the Sun Devils “got an invitation” to the Late Night Talk Show Host Alma Mater Bowl against Ball State. The impetus being Jimmy Kimmel attended ASU while late night veteran David Letterman graduated from Ball State.

I don’t know why, I’ll chalk it up to demand (certainly not popular), but I’ve continued to match up the uninvited each year in my own college football postseason.

Here’s the 2014 version. I hope you enjoy, and happy bowl season!
