Happy New Year!

Mar 7, 2014, 5:18 AM | Updated: Jul 26, 2024, 12:22 pm

The NFL calendar is a little hard to understand. I’ll explain their calendar so it fits with our more established version.

You can talk to potential dates for the New Year’s Eve dance on December 29, but you can’t officially agree that you’ll be together until the ball actually drops. So you might go to the dance with your date, but there could be seven other guys in the limo with you and none of you know who gets to ride home in the limo.

Before you leave for the dance, every suitor’s wallet is capped on the total amount of money you’re allowed to spend. Then, 5…4…3…2…1…Happy New Year! Oh, by the way, New Year starts as a late lunch — not an evening get-together — and January 1st is only an eight-hour day. After the clock strikes midnight, January 2nd starts at 8 a.m.

If you understand everything, let’s get to work because we need to get our plan ready to get into Branden Albert’s and Eugene Monroe’s limo. They will be expecting our call on Saturday.

The new year starts on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. MST and day one ends at 9:00 p.m. MST, because that’s the same as midnight Eastern. All teams must be under the salary cap by the beginning of the New Year, thus the reason you’re hearing about so many contract restructurings that are occurring in the last few weeks. It is also the exact moment that free agency begins from a contract stand point but negotiations can start on Saturday.

The success or failure of the 2014 Arizona Cardinals could be determined in the next seven days. Friday, we’ll cover the plan.
