Varner (21-10-1), a former WEC champion, has struggled to find the win column as of late and is currently suffering from the roughest stretch of his career in the form of a three-fight losing streak. But with two Fight of Night bonuses in his last five bouts, including the 2012 Fight of the Year against Joe Lauzon, Varner has emerged as one of the most exciting fighters to watch below 170 pounds. In his most recent outing, fans witnessed the former champion suffer a broken ankle early in the first round in his main card matchup against James Krause at UFC 173. Even though he could barely stand, Varner toughed it out and made it to the end of the round before the fight was called off due to the severity of his injury. Prior to this loss, Varner dropped a second-round KO loss to Abel Trujillo at UFC 169 in February. Both fighters were awarded Fight of the Night for their performances.
His opponent Dober (14-6), a Nebraska native, will enter this bout riding a career worst two fight losing streak. Prior to this losing streak fans saw Dober’s six-fight win streak snapped in his UFC debut against Sean Spencer at The Ultimate Figheter 18 Finale last November.
UFC on FOX 13 is currently scheduled to take place on Dec. 13 at US Airways Center in downtown Phoenix. No other bouts have been officially announced.
