Report: D-backs add veteran LHP Aaron Laffey on minor-league deal

May 15, 2017, 12:36 PM

The Arizona Diamondbacks have added left-hander Aaron Laffey on a minor-league deal, per Chris Cotillo of SB Nation.

Laffey last pitched in the Majors in 2015 with the Colorado Rockies, but his last big role with a team came with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2012. Then, he made 22 appearances (16 starts) in just over 100 innings, putting up a 4-6 record with a 4.56 ERA

Laffey bounced around the big leagues since getting called up in 2007 with the Cleveland Indians, pitching for six teams in nine years and holding a major league record of 26-29 along with a lifetime 4.44 ERA.

The 32-year-old veteran brings some experience as a starter and out of the pen, having thrown just under 500 innings in his career.

The D-backs purchased his contract from the Somerset Patriots of the Atlantic League.

An Atlantic League press release said that Laffey will be designated to the Diamondbacks’ Triple-A affiliate, the Reno Aces.
