Arizona guard Rawle Alkins has officially been ruled out of the Wildcats’ matchup with Colorado, as the sophomore continues to battle soreness in his right foot.

Alkins’ lingering foot problems stem from a fractured bone he suffered in September during voluntary team activities. Surgery was required to heal the bone properly, which forced Alkins to remain sidelined until he returned in December against Alabama.

Arizona head coach Sean Miller commented Monday on Alkins’ progression after the team decided to sit him out for precautionary reasons on Jan. 17 against Cal due to right foot soreness.

“It’s tricky when somebody goes through the surgery he had because you really rely more on him than anything else,” he said. “We are going to be incredibly smart with him in terms of an extra day here or there — the totality of practice.”

Alkins has only appeared in 10 of the Wildcats’ games this season, but has been productive. He currently averages 14.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.6 steals per game.
