Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Jake Lamb will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Sunday.

Lamb suffered a shoulder injury on April 2 against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He dove to make a catch in foul territory, and then slid headfirst into home plate during the 15th inning of the game.

He played in an extended spring game in the middle of April. On April 30, Lamb threw from 120 feet.

The third baseman has only played four games this season for the D-backs.

Arizona has struggled to score runs as of late, particularly with runners in scoring position, and lost its first series of the season to the Washington Nationals on Sunday.

Lamb’s presence in the lineup could be beneficial; he hit 30 home runs and drove in 105 RBI last season, both of which were career highs.
