The 2018 All-Star Game was a dull one from an Arizona Diamondbacks perspective. Only one of the team’s three players would play in the game.

First baseman Paul Goldschmidt started at designated hitter for the NL and hit third in the lineup. He struck out in his first at-bat against Boston Red Sox ace Chris Sale. In his second plate appearance, Goldschmidt walked in a sixth-pitch at-bat against Tampa Bay Rays starter Blake Snell. He was replaced by St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina in the fifth inning.

The nod for Goldschmidt was his sixth straight appearance in the All-Star Game for the D-backs. With a 0-for-1 night on Tuesday, Goldschmidt is now 2-for-14 in his All-Star career with three strikeouts, one run scored and one double.

Left-handed starter Patrick Corbin did not make an appearance in his second All-Star Game. In his first, Corbin earned the loss in 2013, giving up a solo home run to Jose Bautista in his one inning of work.

Starting pitcher Zack Greinke would also not pitch in his fifth All-Star nod. In his career, Greinke has pitched four innings in the All-Star Game, giving up one earned run, two hits, one walk and has struck out nine. He started the 2015 All-Star Game as a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Former D-back Jean Segura was the difference-maker in the first eight innings. The Seattle Mariners middle infielder hit a three-run homer in the eighth inning to break a 2-2 tie. He also had a single and scored an additional run.

After Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich’s solo dinger for the NL in the eighth, Reds second baseman Scooter Gennett hit a two-run homer in the ninth to tie the game and send it to extras.

The game didn’t last much longer.

Houston Astros hitters Alex Bregman and George Springer hit back-to-back home runs for the AL in the 10th, giving their side the lead and an 8-6 win.
