Globetrotters to play in Phoenix, but first: a trick shot at Chase Field

Aug 4, 2018, 11:12 AM | Updated: 12:06 pm

The Harlem Globetrotters will be playing in Phoenix on Aug. 11.

But first, they went over to Chase Field to do some trick shots on a baseball diamond.

“Hammer Harrison” dropped a shot from the upper rafters into a hoop in the pool area. The release, well higher than any nosebleeds in the stadium, was shown from different angles in the video.

Hammer was the obvious choice for the shot. According to the Globetrotters‘ site, he owns the Guinness World Record for longest underhand basketball shot, at 84 feet, 8.5 inches.

The shot in Chase Field didn’t travel 84 feet horizontally. Vertically, though, he was standing near the top of the 242-foot tall Chase Field as he threw in the underhand attempt.

Hammer also threw out the first pitch of the D-backs game on July 30.

He brought a basketball to the mound before pulling out a baseball, holding it up and then throwing to home plate.

This throw was overhand.

The Globetrotters will play two games at Talking Stick Resort Arena on Aug. 11.

Tickets start at $18 on Ticketmaster.
