The Arizona Diamondbacks were 2-3 on a nine-game road trip with four games left against the San Diego Padres.

Then Paul Goldschmidt led the D-backs to three wins in four games, posting a .571 batting average in the series at Petco Park in San Diego.

It was an impressive turnaround considering how he finished off the 2017 season and how the 2018 season started.

Last September, Goldschmidt had a batting average of just .175  and over the first two months of the 2018 season, the slugger could only muster seven home runs and 19 RBI.

But the three-time Silver Slugger award winner turned things around and still was selected to the 2018 NL All-Star team. He has not slowed down.

Here is how Goldschmidt helped salvage five wins over the nine-game road trip for the D-backs:

.500

Goldschmidt went 18-for-36 over the entire nine game stretch. He went 8-for-14 in San Diego and a combined 10-for-22 against the Cincinnati Reds and Texas Rangers.

4 and 10

The amount of home runs and RBI Goldschmidt had on the nine-game road trip. Goldschmidt posted three homeruns and eight RBI over 26 games played in the month of May.

10

From Aug. 17-19, Goldschmidt reached base in 10 consecutive plate appearances. He broke the old club record of nine, which was shared between four players: Mark Reynolds, Raul Mondesi, Greg Coburn and (drum roll…) Paul Goldschmidt.

12

Goldschmidt got a hit in all nine of the games on the team road trip, but his hitting streak extends further than that and now sits at 12 games. The last game Goldschmidt didn’t get a hit in was against the San Francisco Giants on Aug. 5. He was 0-for-1 with three walks.

14

In six of the nine games, Goldschmidt had more than one hit. On Aug. 18, he broke a tie with teammate David Peralta for most four-hit games in franchise history with 14.

20

On that same day, Goldschmidt moved into a tie with Steve Finley in the D-backs history books with his 20th four-RBI game.

38

Goldschmidt has reached base in 38 consecutive road games, another team record. Coincidentally, the D-backs are 25-13 over that stretch and have the best road winning percentage in the National League this season. His overall streak is 25 straight games. July 22 against the Rockies was the last time the first baseman was kept off first base.

1.504

Goldschmidt posted a 1.504 OPS over the road trip. His overall season OPS is .945 and on the road trip his plain slugging nearly matched that number at .944.
