Arizona Cardinals head coach Steve Wilks expects quarterback Josh Rosen to be able to play next week despite a sprained left toe.

Rosen hurt his toe late in the 45-10 loss to the Broncos on Thursday.

“We put him in a boot last night to take the pressure off of it and he should be fine and ready to go next week,” Wilks said on Friday. “We have 10 days and based off what the trainers are saying, there shouldn’t be any setbacks.”

After the game, Rosen expressed similar sentiment that it wasn’t a serious injury.

“I was just being soft, I’ll be OK,” he said. “I’ll be good.”

On Friday morning, Cardinals general manager Steve Wilks was asked why the franchise quarterback remained on the field in the fourth quarter in a blowout game. He told the Doug & Wolf Show on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station that there isn’t a good answer when debating whether to keep the rookie quarterback safe or give him experience.

At the end of the day we can argue and say, ‘You know what, we want to get him snaps, it’s valuable to get him as many snaps as possible, to see as many looks as we can,'” Wilks said. “And then conversely, we can say, ‘Well, shoot, we don’t want to put him in harm’s way.’”

If it means anything, after the game Thursday, Rosen said he wanted to stay on the field.

“I’d definitely rather stay in there and see as many defenses as I possibly can as early in my career as I can,” Rosen said. “If he would have tried to pull me out we would have definitely had to have a conversation about that one.”

Injuries on the offensive line

Offensive linemen Mike Iupati (back) and Justin Pugh (hand) remain day-to-day, Wilks said during the press conference Friday.

Iupati was not active Thursday.

Pugh was active with his left hand wrapped in a cast, but did not play.

Both players got hurt during the game on Sunday against the Vikings.
