The Arizona Coyotes have placed left wing Mario Kempe on waivers, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported in a Tweet on Wednesday.

According to CapFriendly, Kempe is not waiver exempt, and would therefore need to clear waivers to be sent to the Coyotes’ AHL affiliate, the Tucson Roadrunners. That same resource states that Kempe currently has a $700,000 cap hit.

Kempe made the NHL roster out of training camp, but the return of Alex Glachenyuk and Josh Archibald from IR since that time has added more bodies to the forward group. Galchenyuk made his season debut on Tuesday night against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Kempe, 30, has played a total of 22 NHL games over the past two seasons, all with the Coyotes. He scored two goals with two assists in 18 games in 2017-18, and has appeared in four games this year with no points and an average of 10:22 of ice time.

The Sweden native was originally drafted in fifth round in the 2007 NHL Draft by the Philadelphia Flyers. His brother, Adrian, plays for the Los Angeles Kings.
