Wednesday was the latest iteration of Burns & Gambo’s Holiday Heroes on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station, and the fundraiser at GCU was another success.

The event, which raises money for the 100 Club of Arizona, brought in more than $100,000 during an eight-hour broadcast live from the GCU Golf Course clubhouse.

The 100 Club of Arizona assists the families of first responders who were seriously injured or killed in the line of duty. It offers financial and emotional assistance during the most tragic moments of these families’ lives and has provided support to those in their times of greatest need.

Dave Burns and John Gambadoro’s broadcast and corresponding online promotion called upon the community to offer support for the 100 Club, and the public stepped up in a big way. Incentives for giving included the chance to win autographed jerseys from local sports stars like Devin Booker, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, David Johnson and Robbie Ray, as well as the chance to the Ultimate Arizona Sports Fan Experience.

That money will go to help people like Debbie and Kaile Edenhofer, the mother and fiance of DPS trooper Tyler Edenhofer, who was shot and killed after a suspect got hold of an officer’s gun during a late-night incident in July. He was 24 years old and in his last week of training.

“It was the next day, [100 Club CEO] Angela [Harolle] had shown up,” Kaile Edenhofer said. “At this time, you don’t want this type of support, but she shows up with some financial help for not only Debbie but for me as well. She’s just there to support us through the next conversation, which is planning a funeral with DPS.

“She goes beyond that, too. I don’t know how many times we’ve met for coffee just to talk about things. So, she’s there for more than just financial support. Almost like a mentor, because she’s been through it, too.”

Arizona Sports would like to thank those who supported the 100 Club during the fundraiser, as well as the sponsors of Holiday Heroes: Grand Canyon University, Copper Springs, Desert Ford Dealers, AT&T, Moving Team Six, Phat Scooter and Trane. We’d also like to thank the Arizona Diamondbacks, who gave a generous donation of $50,000.
