Arizona State fans storm court after upset win over Kansas

The No. 18 Arizona State Sun Devils won in a big way Saturday night, taking down the No. 1 Kansas Jayhawks 80-76 at Wells Fargo Arena.

Five Sun Devils finished in double figures as ASU knocked off the top team in the country for just the second time in school history.

Oh yeah, Kansas came in undefeated, too.

Feeling the magnitude of the victory, ASU fans wasted little time in kicking off the celebration in Tempe.

Need another look?

“The crowd was dynamic,” ASU head coach Bobby Hurley said after the win. “It was off the charts in terms of the electricity in the building.”

It was a battle of two halves for the Sun Devils. ASU fell into a hole early on, trailing 39-31 in the first half before a huge second half (49 points) propelled the Sun Devils to the big victory.

“We want to say thank you to everyone that’s supporting us,” ASU guard Remy Martin said after the game when asked about the crowd. “We were down and they were still with us, they didn’t gave up on us. They have been consistent from the first game until now. The fans gave us that extra boost.

“I just want to say thank you to everybody because that atmosphere, we rushed the court, I’ve never got the feeling of rushing the court … Those are the moments we live for. We fought our hardest to accomplish what we did.”

Zylan Cheatham led the way for ASU with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

And don’t get it twisted, the court-storming excitement didn’t stop there as Hurley and company kept the party going in the locker room postgame.

“You’ve created something here you guys that certainly wasn’t here when I walked in the door four years ago,” Hurley said in the locker room.

“It’s amazing to see what that was just like and too see all you guys come through collectively together like that .. just way to step up, big shots, free throws … you walked [Kansas] right out the door.”
