Mercury fire assistant coach after domestic violence accusations

Jan 8, 2019, 9:13 PM

The Phoenix Mercury announced Tuesday they have fired assistant coach Todd Troxel after accusations of domestic violence arose.

Per a report from ABC15 Arizona, Troxel is facing potential legal troubles.

“There were injuries sustained during a domestic incident where a window was broken,” said Paradise Valley Police Lt. Michael Cole.

Photos obtained by TMZ Sports show broken glass and blood at the home. According to the website, Troxel put his fist through the window, severing two arteries. His fiance allegedly suffered a dislocated finger in the scuffle.

In a press release, the Mercury addressed their own investigation into the allegations.

“After a media report alerted us to an incident involving Troxel and his fiancée, we immediately retained an outside firm to conduct an independent investigation that included interviews with both involved parties,” the release said. “We have determined that Troxel’s conduct on that night was unacceptable and does not represent our values as an organization, and we cannot continue his employment. We recognize domestic violence as a significant problem, and we will continue our work with local organizations that support and protect victims and their families.”

Troxel, 41, had been an assistant with the Mercury for five seasons.
