The No. 1 overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft held his introductory press conference with the Arizona Cardinals on Friday afternoon.

His name is Kyler Murray and he plays the quarterback position, in case you needed to be reminded.

He also joined the Bickley & Marotta show on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station shortly after the press conference to expand on some of his thoughts.

Murray seems to be happy with his current situation.

“I think it’s everything I’ve dreamed of. As a kid not only dreaming about being the No. 1 pick in the draft but just being in the NFL. Now that I’m here, man, it’s a blessing and I can’t wait to touch the field,” Murray said.

Fielding a wide range of questions for around 10 minutes from varying members of the Valley media, Murray discussed his relationship with head coach Kliff Kingsbury, how things will play out with current teammate and fellow quarterback Josh Rosen and turning around a franchise that won only three games last season.

According to Murray, linking up with Kingsbury was something that the two have been planning for awhile.

“We have had multiple talks about this situation for years,” Murray said. “As a player you want to have a guy who knows what you do, respects your game and is behind you at all costs.”

What is not on his mind is the developing in-house drama for the Cardinals at the quarterback position.

Josh Rosen, the incumbent starter and top-10 draft pick in his own right from a season ago, is still on the roster.

“I’m not really worried about starting the first game or anything like that. For me all I can do is come in and get better each and every single day,” Murray said.

The Cardinals will not come into the season with high expectations considering they only won three games in 2018. Murray’s football experience has been on the other end of the spectrum as his teams have had fewer losses in the past four years than Arizona had wins in 2018.

When asked if he knew his win-loss record, which included three consecutive undefeated state championship season in high school and a semi-final appearance in the College Football Playoffs last season, Murray had a witty response.

“I think I can count on two fingers the amount of games I’ve lost.”
