The Phoenix Suns announced Friday the location of their new training facility, which will sit at Camelback Road and 44th Street in Phoenix.

The team plans to break ground on the facility by the end of summer this year.

The facility is privately-financed and will “feature the latest innovations in sports science and player development,” a statement from the team said. It will also include offices, health and training amenities and two courts to be used by both the Suns and the Phoenix Mercury.

“Robert Sarver’s investment in our new training facility demonstrates his commitment to ensuring we have the proper resources to compete at the highest level,” GM James Jones said in the statement. “There are extensive limitations to the player development and training space available in our nearly 30 year old arena.

“The development of this stand-alone, secure and private facility will enhance our player health, development and wellness capabilities, and allow us to retain and attract the best basketball talent to the Valley for years to come.”

The team’s current practice court at Talking Stick Resort Arena was one point of emphasis when the Suns were calling for improvements to their arena late last year.

The City of Phoenix approved the Suns’ arena renovation deal in January, passing a much-scrutinized $235 million renovation plan that will keep the team in the city-owned arena until at least 2037. The proposal passed 6-2.
