It didn’t take long for recently called up Kevin Cron to contribute.

In his first start with the club, the Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman not only notched his first career MLB hit, but Cron also added two RBI and scored a run Saturday afternoon.

“He had a really good idea of what he’s trying to do per at-bat,” D-backs manager Torey Lovullo told reporters of Cron’s performance. “He’s very comfortable, he’s been in this surrounding for a long time — he was born in a bat bag — so I think he’s very, very comfortable knowing he’s at the big-league level and ready to perform.”

It could have been so much more, however.

In his first at-bat of the afternoon, Cron turned on one, lasering a line drive to no man’s land in right field.

Unfortunately for the Mountain Pointe alum, Giants OF Kevin Pillar was there waiting to make a play.

Absolutely robbed.

“It’s a little welcome to the big leagues moment,” Cron said after the game. “I’m just glad I got some good swings off and he made a heck of a play. I’m just happy we got the win.”

Instead of a triple — or at the least a double — Cron watched Pillar make one of the hardest catches of his career.

But it wasn’t entirely bad news, as the D-backs still brought a run across the plate to extend their lead.

Luckily for Cron, he wouldn’t have to wait long to get his revenge.

Needing just one pitch, Cron sent one down the third-base line, bringing in Adam Jones for his second RBI of the day.

“You’re just trying to look for something, especially in that part of the game, just to drive that run in,” Cron told reporters. “Like I said yesterday, my role is to bring in runs however possible so it was a good thing it worked out that way.”

His brother, Minnesota Twins first baseman and DH C.J. Cron, took a moment on Twitter to give his sibling some props.

The D-backs first baseman finished the day going 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI as Arizona took the 10-4 win over San Francisco.

It’s been a whirlwind 48 hours for the Arizona native.

After being called up from the Reno Aces on Friday, Cron traveled to San Francisco to join the team later that night.

It was a family affair, however, as his father and manager of the Aces, Chris Cron, broke the news to his son.
