The Arizona Coyotes announced Sunday the team had signed Victor Soderstrom to a three-year entry-level contract.

The Coyotes selected the Swedish defenseman with the 11th overall pick in the 2019 NHL Draft after trading up from the 14th pick with the Philadelphia Flyers.

“Victor is a highly skilled player and an elite prospect,” general manager John Chayka said in a press release. “We are very pleased to get him signed and look forward to having him come to training camp and compete for a spot on our roster.”

The 18-year-old native of Skutskar, Sweden won a gold medal at the 2019 World Junior Championship while playing for the Swedish U18 team.

Last season, the 6-foot, 183-pound right-shot defenseman scored four goals with three assists in 44 games with Brynas IF in the SHL. He also played 14 games with Brynas IF J20 in the SuperElit and scored a goal with seven assists. The 18-year-old had the most points in the SHL by a U18 skater last season.

“It’s a dream come true for me and my family,” Soderstrom said in the release. “The Coyotes are a first-class organization and I look forward to playing for them in the future.”
