D-backs call up Yasmany Tomas from Triple-A Reno

The Arizona Diamondbacks have selected outfielder Yasmany Tomas from Triple-A Reno, the club announced in a press release on Friday.
In a corresponding move, pitcher Luke Weaver (right forearm tightness) has been transferred to the 60-day injured list to make room for Tomas on the 40-man roster which is now at 40.
Right-handed pitcher Taylor Clarke has also been placed on the paternity list.
Tomas, 28, is hitting .305 for the Aces this season with 29 home runs, 80 RBI and an OPS of .944.
Arizona signed Tomas to a six-year, $68.5 million contract in 2014 and over the course of three seasons from 2015-17, he hit .268 with 48 home runs and 163 RBI.
Signed by the former D-backs regime led by chief baseball officer Tony La Russa and general manager Dave Stewart, Tomas began his tenure with Arizona playing third base. He debuted a month into the 2015 season after beginning his career in the United States with Reno and hit .273/.305/.401 with nine homers and 48 RBIs as a rookie.

His best year came in 2016, when he slashed .272/.313/.508 and recorded 31 home runs to lead Arizona. Tomas played in just 47 games for the 2017 season due to a core injury that led to two surgeries.
On April 1 of 2018, the D-backs outrighted Tomas to the Triple-A level, meaning he was removed from the 40-man roster. Tomas had the right to decline the assignment, but that would have voided his contract.
The $15 million Tomas makes this season is over twice as much as the second-highest-paid position player on the roster, left fielder David Peralta, who makes $7 million in 2019.
Tomas’ deal runs out in 2020 after he makes $17 million in the final year of the contract.
The 28-year-old last played for the big-league club on June 2, 2017.
Clarke is 3-3 with a 6.10 ERA and one save over 51.2 innings pitched in 12 games (11 starts) for the D-backs this season. He won his last start on July 24 against the Baltimore Orioles, allowing only two runs in six innings of work to go along with a career-high seven strikeouts.
Weaver, who was placed on the injured list on May 27, is 4-3 with a 3.03 ERA, 14 walks and 68 punchouts in 11 starts for Arizona on the 2019 campaign.
The D-backs start a four-game series in Miami against the Marlins on Friday.
