By the numbers: Zack Greinke’s time with the Diamondbacks

Jul 31, 2019, 2:31 PM | Updated: 4:37 pm

Just after the trade deadline closed out, Ken Rosenthal reported that Zack Greinke was dealt to the Houston Astros.

The announcement came after Greinke was pulled from Wednesday’s game at the Yankees.

After signing a six-year $206.5 million contract with the D-backs in 2015, he has been a keystone to the team’s starting rotation, making the All-Star game in each of the last three season.

Here are some stats to highlight Greinke’s time in Arizona:

3.40

In four seasons with the D-backs from 2016 to 2019, Greinke had a 3.40 ERA in 113 starts. That’s fourth all-time in D-backs history behind Randy Johnson, Curt Schilling and Brandon Webb.

55

Greinke’s 55 wins with the club were fifth in team history, only one shy of Patrick Corbin, who had 56. Johnson, Webb and Schilling also were ahead of Greinke in D-backs history.

.655

Greinke’s .655 winning percentage was third in club history behind only Schilling and Johnson.

18.1

With his pitching, hitting and defense, Greinke’s 18.1 all-around WAR was seventh in team history behind Johnson, Paul Goldschmidt, Webb, Luis Gonzalez, Schilling and A.J. Pollock.

6

After stints with the Royals, Dodgers, Brewers and Angels before coming to the Diamondbacks, Greinke’s stint with the Houston Astros will mark the sixth team of his career.

0.943

Greinke’s 0.943 WHIP is on pace to become the second-best of his career, beaten only by his 2015 mark of 0.844. That year, Greinke had a career-best 1.66 ERA and finished second in NL Cy Young voting.

2.87

Entering Wednesday, a day in which Greinke made a start for the D-backs against the Yankees in a matinee game, Greinke owned a 2.87 ERA on the season. That puts him ninth in the majors in ERA and seventh in the NL.
