ASU’s Jayden Daniels, Michael Turk receive Pac-12 weekly honors

Arizona State Sun Devils quarterback Jayden Daniels and punter Michael Turk were named as the Pac-12 Freshman and Special Teams Player of the Week, respectively, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Daniels threw for 284 yards and two touchdown passes — including a 77-yarder to wideout Brandon Aiyuk — to go along with a one rushing score in ASU’s 30-7 win over Kent State.
The quarterback became the first true freshman to start a season opener in school history and broke Jeff Krohn’s record of 160 passing yards in a first career game set back in 2000.
Daniels is a candidate for the Davey O’Brien Award for the nation’s best quarterback.

Turk set an NCAA record for the highest average of yards per punt in a single game at a whopping 63 (minimum five attempts).
The sophomore totaled 315 yards in five punts on the night (64, 62, 65, 49 and 75), three of which landed inside the Kent State 20-yard line.
Turk’s 75-yarder is tied for the sixth-longest punt in school history.
Turk was named to the preseason watch list for the Ray Guy Award, which is given to the nation’s best punter.
