The Phoenix Suns are expected to sign forward Haywood Highsmith to an Exhibit 10 contract, according to The Athletic’s Gina Mizell.

Highsmith was on a two-way contract with the Philadelphia 76ers last season. He appeared in five games and played 40 total minutes. In the G League for the Delaware Blue Coats, he averaged 12.2 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.2 steals per game in 46 appearances.

While Highsmith was waived in June, he played for the 76ers’ summer league team and averaged 7.2 points over four games.

On Thursday, Highsmith was one of 12 players named to the NBA G League Elite Team. Highsmith and 11 others will compete at the 2019 NBA G League International Challenge in Uruguay from Sept. 18-22 that will feature international club teams such as Germany’s FC Bayern Munich and Brazil’s Flamengo.

Highsmith went undrafted in 2018 after playing for four seasons at Wheeling Jesuit, a Division II school in West Virginia out of the Mountain East Conference.

An Exhibit 10 contract is a non-guaranteed deal. Teams can enter training camp with up to 20 players on the roster. That number must be cut down to 15, with two additional spots allowed via two-way contracts.

Former Texas Tech big Tariq Owens reportedly received a training camp contract, as did summer league member David Kramer. With the Suns already at 15 roster spots filled, Highsmith would make it 18 players for training camp. Jared Harper’s two-way contract brings the total to 19. The Suns still have one two-way contract, which an Exhibit 10 contract can be crafted into.
