After already being replaced at the bench coach spot this offseason, Jerry Narron now has decided not to return to the D-backs coaching staff altogether.

According to a report from MLB.com’s Steve Gilbert, manager Torey Lovullo said Narron has decided to move on.

The D-backs announced in September that Luis Urueta, who had already been on the major league coaching staff, was being promoted to bench coach. Narron, who had been the bench coach the last three seasons, was retained and given the opportunity to still coach in Arizona next year.

At that time, the organization also said it would allow Narron to pursue managerial or bench coaching opportunities elsewhere.

It wasn’t clear as of Thursday whether Narron is leaving the D-backs to pursue another job specifically.

“The thinking is that they both offer me different areas of strengths,” Lovullo said in September. “I felt like there was some thoughts that Jerry had inside of the dugout that were fantastic and second to none. I thought he ran a baseball game extremely well. And I want to explore that option with [Urueta].

“I feel like it’s my responsibility to bring along staff members and teach them, tutor them, mentor them, and allow them to grow. And I just felt like the growth aspect for [Urueta] was really enticing for me. And I think he’s loaded with potential. And I didn’t want to keep him in the position that he was in without allowing him to reach his full potential.”
