Browns WR Jarvis Landry denies he told Cardinals ‘come get me’

Receiver Jarvis Landry wasn’t pleased to read and hear that he was named among the Cleveland Browns players who allegedly pleaded with the Cardinals to “come get” them after Sunday’s win by Arizona.

Speaking to the media for the first time since NFL Network’s Mike Silver reported that players yelled at the Cardinals sideline, “come get me,” Landry shot down dissatisfaction with his current team.

“Yeah, I would never say nothing like that,’’ Landry told reporters in Cleveland. “And I don’t even want to talk about it.’’

Landry said he didn’t feel like he needed to address the report with his teammates.

“I think that the passion and the team I play for, that they trust and know my heart and know that I’m in this,” Landry said Wednesday. “I would never look to another team in a game, especially that we’re losing, and say come get me — with a worse record than we have. Michael or whoever the source was — it’s all about clicks now. I get it, but at the end of the day, don’t try to slander my name.”

Silver said two sources told him that “multiple” Browns players yelled at the Cardinals to “come get me,” requesting that they acquire them this offseason.

Landry was already a focal point during the game after he and Cleveland coach Freddie Kitchens were caught disagreeing on the Browns sideline. Both of them brushed off the interaction, in which Landry asked for the ball to help the Browns get back into the game that they eventually lost 38-24.

As for the apparent request by Cleveland players for Arizona to pursue their football services, Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury told Bickley & Marotta on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station that he didn’t witness anything of the sort.

He did, however, take the opportunity to make a pitch.

“I didn’t see any of that going on,” Kingsbury said. “We’d love to have a bunch of top free agents want to be a part of this organization for a myriad of reasons. Incredible place to live, great fans, and hopefully great offense, great defense and a chance to win football games.”
