Arizona State hockey defenseman Brinson Pasichnuk has agreed to terms on an entry-level contract with the San Jose Sharks, ASU’s hockey account tweeted Tuesday.

The senior blueliner finished the regular season ranked third in the nation among defensemen in points (37) and tied for second in goals (11) as ASU went 22-11-3.

For his career, the 5-foot-10, 208-pound Pasichnuk played four seasons and tallied 107 points in 136 games. He is the school’s all-time leader in games played, points and assists.

His brother, Steenn Pasichnuk, also played for ASU.

Brinson Pasichnuk is a native of Bonnyville, Alta., Canada. He played junior hockey in the Alberta Junior Hockey League for the Bonnyville Pontiacs.

Here’s how TSN’s Frank Seravalli described Pasichnuk:

Pasichnuk is an undersized, but thickly built offensive genius who is third among all defenceman in the nation in scoring this year. The co-captain and power play quarterback, seemingly on the ice half the game with fellow undrafted free agent Josh Maniscalco, is very likely to step into the NHL this season.

ASU hockey didn’t have a conference tournament to play because it’s not in a conference, as the Pac-12 doesn’t include hockey. For that reason, they were idle when the coronavirus outbreak caused both college and professional sports to be on paused. So it isn’t clear, yet, when Pasichnuk will get to play hockey again, or when he could suit up at the pro level for the first time.
