Sometimes it’s just not your day on the sticks.

Friday marked one of those times for Phoenix Suns forward Tariq Owens.

Taking over the virtual controls of the Suns on NBA2K20 against the Cavaliers, the down low play of Cleveland, ran by guard Darius Garland, appeared to be too much for the forward.

With Garland driving the lane and finishing in the paint early on, Owens found himself in a major hole after a quarter of play. A two-point deficit with 4:30 remaining in the quarter ballooned to a 28-10 advantage for Cleveland, which used a 16-0 run to finish off the first.

From there, Owens continued to falter, falling 105-45 as the Suns continue to play out the rest of their season on Twitch.

The second quarter saw Owens put up 14 points, the most in a quarter for the Suns, but he had no answer for Garland’s offense, trailing 55-24 at the half. Garland proceeded to pour it on, scoring 50 points in the second half to Owens’ 21.

Kelly Oubre Jr. led the way for Phoenix, recording 11 points on 3-of-7 shooting, two rebounds, and two assists. He made two of his four 3-point attempts and was 3-of-6 from the charity stripe.

Garland led all scorers with 28 points and added four rebounds, four assists and three steals.

For the second straight game, Deandre Ayton had the play of the game, making a steal before finishing at the other end with the slam.

UP NEXT

Phoenix has six games left on its virtual schedule, with the next game up on Sunday against the Chicago Bulls.

Starting Friday, Devin Booker and Ayton are representing the Suns in ESPN’s broadcast of a 16-player NBA2K tournament.
