Larry Fitzgerald surprises young fan on final day of cancer treatment

May 29, 2020, 9:46 AM

Arizona Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald surprised a 9-year-old on his final day of cancer treatment via a Zoom call Thursday.

Tennyson Erickson of Platte, S.D. previously visited Cardinals mini-camp in 2018 while battling acute lymphoblastic leukemia. With help from the Make-A-Wish Foundation, he met Fitzgerald back then. ESPN covered the story with a video here that showed Tennyson signing a contract with the team.

On Thursday, Tennyson and Fitzgerald met again but did so virtually. Fitzgerald watched as the young fan rang a bell to celebrate the end of his cancer treatments.

Tennyson was diagnosed in February 2017 and has since undergone 1,206 days of treatment, two surgeries, 34 nights in a hospital, three visits to the emergency room and various other medical procedures, like 10 rounds of chemotherapy.

“You’re a warrior full of strength and courage and an inspiration to us all,” Fitzgerald wrote in a tweet.

In addition to the two aforementioned meet-ups, Fitzgerald also tossed a game ball to Tennyson in 2018 when he sat front-row at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minnesota, which happens to be where Fitzgerald is from.
