The Arizona State Sun Devils expect to begin their altered 2020 football schedule of 10 Pac-12 opponents against the rival Arizona Wildcats, reports Yahoo! Sports’ Pete Thamel.

ASU plans to open in Tucson on Sept. 26, which would have been the fourth week of the previously planned college football schedule. It would be the earliest Duel in the Desert meeting since 1937.

The Pac-12 will give schools the option to flex any matchup to Dec. 12 if the schools agree that a game is not possible due to the coronavirus.

The teams usually close the conference schedule with a rivalry matchup. Originally, they were set to clash on Nov. 28.

Having already dropped non-conference games due to the coronavirus pandemic, a collection of Pac-12 athletic directors, football coaches and directors of football operations have been planning a revised schedule while working with a league coronavirus advisory committee. The 10 conference games will consist of five division games and five crossover games.

Pac-12 leaders reportedly approved the 10-game conference-only schedule format in a meeting Friday.

The Sun Devils will reportedly add Stanford to their schedule but the original 2020 slate already included Arizona, USC, UCLA, Utah, Colorado, Oregon State, Washington State, Cal and Oregon.
