D-backs, Dodgers play for Tucson shooting victims

TUCSON, Ariz. — Friday’s spring training game between the Arizona Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Dodgers at Tucson Electric Park will raise money for victims of the January mass shooting in Tucson.

D-backs CEO Derrick Hall told FOX 10 that his team is happy to return to TEP, where it held spring training until this year when the D-backs moved to Scottsdale.

“Those are our fans, those are our people,” Hall said. “We are all Arizonans and, if we can help them in Tucson, still have a presence there, we’re glad to.”

Hall added, “We want a jam-packed house. The more money we can raise for these families and for the victims, the better it’s going to be.”

The father of 9-year-old Christina Greene — the youngest of six people killed in the shooting at a political rally — is a scout for the Dodgers.

The shooting happened in a supermarket parking lot where Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was meeting constituents. Giffords was among 13 people wounded.
