Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Miguel Montero was named to the All-Star Game roster in place of Placido Polanco of the Philadelphia Phillies, Major League Baseball announced in a press release.
Polanco was a fan-elected player, which permitted NL manager Bruce Bochy to choose his replacement in conjunction with MLB.
Montero is the team’s third catcher on the roster. He joins fellow Diamondback Justin Upton as the only other player representing the host city.
This is the first time Montero was selected for the All-Star Game.
Montero is batting .273 this season with 45 RBIs.
Polanco dropped out of the game because he is being bothered by a bulging disc in his back.
