The Arizona Cardinals will not allow fans in State Farm Stadium for the last two home games of the season, the team announced Friday.

The team is set to play the Philadelphia Eagles on Dec. 20 and the San Francisco 49ers on Dec. 26.

The decision comes based on guidance from the Arizona Department of Health Services as coronavirus cases around the state surge.

Immediate family members of Cardinals players and staff will be allowed to attend in a limited number.

Arizona health officials reported 6,983 new coronavirus cases with 91 additional deaths Friday, the third-highest single-day case report of the pandemic.

The state’s documented totals were 394,512 COVID-19 infections and 7,245 fatalities, as of Friday morning.

The Phoenix Suns announced Thursday they will begin the 2020-21 season without fans in attendance, also due to the spike in cases.

The Cardinals allowed 4,200 fans in the stands for two home games in November, but chose to keep fans away last week against the Rams due to rising cases and hospitalizations.
