ASU co-DC Marvin Lewis interviews for Texans head coaching job

Arizona State Sun Devils co-defensive coordinator Marvin Lewis on Wednesday met with the Houston Texans over their vacant head coaching job.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo first reported the news, adding that other teams could be interested in acquiring the coordinator’s services.

Lewis originally joined the Sun Devils staff in 2019 as a special assistant. He served as ASU’s interim defensive backs coach for the 2019 Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl before taking over coordinator duties with Antonio Pierce this season.

Before taking his talents to the desert, Lewis spent 2003-18 as the Cincinnati Bengals head coach.

During his 16 seasons with the Bengals, Lewis set the team’s franchise record for career wins (131), playoff appearances (seven), consecutive playoff appearances (five) and division titles (four). He’s also the longest-tenured coach in Bengals history.

The interview comes following the report that Pierce was in talks with ASU about a promotion and pay raise after the former Wildcat had “serious conversations” with Arizona about its head coaching job.

The Wildcats pegged Jedd Fisch as the team’s head coach on Wednesday.
