Arizona Wildcats head coach Jedd Fisch has hired College Football Hall of Famer Tedy Bruschi as his senior advisor, the program announced Monday.

Bruschi, who played on Arizona’s defensive line for Dick Tomey’s Desert Swarm era squads from 1991-95, will be part of Arizona’s “executive football management team while serving as a consultant with the entire football staff,” Arizona’s press release said.

He will be involved in alumni relationships, fundraising, social justice initiatives and player development off the field.

“Tedy Bruschi represents everything we want from our student-athletes,” Fisch said in a statement. “He knows what it takes to do things right on and off the field and has demonstrated success in all facets of life throughout the years. Tedy is a true friend and ally who understands what it takes to win; respect accountability, selflessness, and enthusiasm.

“Tedy has always been the best at what he does, and this is another opportunity to bring greatness to our entire program.”

Bruschi, 47, brings extensive NFL experience to the Wildcats. He played linebacker for the New England Patriots from 1996 through 2008 and won three Super Bowls with the team.

The Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year in 1995, Bruschi was consulted this offseason by Fisch after the latter was named Arizona’s replacement for the fired Kevin Sumlin.

“I am very excited to re-establish my connection to the Arizona football program,” Bruschi said in a statement. “Coach Fisch, and his vision for the program, is the main reason for my new level of involvement.

“I look forward to assisting Coach Fisch and the program in any way I can as we develop the next generations of Wildcats who are purposeful, resilient and original.”

Bruschi joins a football staff that also includes Wildcat football Ring of Honor members Chuck Cecil (defensive backs coach) and Ricky Hunley (defensive line coach), plus former safety Brandon Sanders (coordinator of alumni and high school relations).
