Having lost graduating players, four more to the transfer portal in addition to two potential first-round picks via the NBA Draft, the Arizona State Sun Devils took another step forward in answering the player exodus by receiving a commitment from Toledo transfer Marreon Jackson on Thursday.

Jackson was the Mid-American Conference Player of the Year in 2020-21.

The 6-foot-1 guard averaged 18.1 points, 6.1 rebounds and 5.9 assists while shooting 40% overall and 35% from three.

Jackson will have a chance to fight for playing time in the backcourt with Remy Martin and Alonzo Verge graduated, plus Jaelen House transferring — he said on Twitter Wednesday that New Mexico and Grand Canyon are his options — and Josh Christopher likely to be selected in the NBA Draft.

Holland Woods also returns at guard for ASU, while Luther Muhammad, an Ohio State transfer who sat out in Tempe this past year, will also be in the mix for playing time. So will Boston College transfer Jay Heath, who averaged 14.5 points in 2020-21.

ASU has hit the transfer portal hard amid the mass exit of players that also included wing Taeshon Cherry, plus bigs Chris Osten and Pavlo Dziuba, departing.

Head coach Bobby Hurley has also received a commitment from 2022 four-star center Enoch Boakye, who will reclassify in attempts to play this coming season.

Robert Morris forward A.J. Bramah also committed to the Sun Devils as a transfer in the past two weeks. The 6-foot-7, 210-pound wing averaged 21 points, 10.3 rebounds and shot 51% from the floor in 12 games this past season.
