Giants general manager Dave Gettleman has never traded down in his eight-year run leading the Carolina Panthers and New York front offices.

Apparently, he’s considering doing it for the first time. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said Tuesday that the Giants are “internally considering” trading back from the No. 11 draft slot.

That pick likely sits in the gray area of a select group of tiers, and for teams like the Arizona Cardinals, maybe that’s something to monitor depending on how the draft plays out in the first 10 selections.

With a possible run of four quarterbacks being taken in the first round, plus likely top-10 picks in offensive tackle Penei Sewell, receiver Ja’Marr Chase and tight end Kyle Pitts, what happens starting around the seventh and eighth picks could throw things off by 11th overall.

And if a player who some team is absolutely in love with falls to the New York pick, there could be some desperation that the Giants could take advantage of.

From Arizona’s perspective, there could be a few intriguing options.

If the team’s favorite cornerback remains on the team’s board by the time the 11th pick comes around, Cardinals general manager Steve Keim might be interested in moving up. Alabama’s Patrick Surtain II or South Carolina’s Jaycee Horn are generally regarded as the top two corners in the 2021 class.

A second receiver after Chase — be it either of Alabama’s Jaylen Waddle or DeVonta Smith — could give quarterback Kyler Murray a full foursome of talented receivers to work with.
