Phoenix Suns point guard Chris Paul suffered a stinger in his right arm on Sunday during his team’s Game 1 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers, reports the Arizona Republic’s Kent Somers.

While Paul said after the game he would play in Game 2 on Tuesday, Suns coach Monty Williams wouldn’t go as far Monday.

With 9:19 left in the second quarter, Paul fought through traffic on a transition rebound attempt and was clipped by the Lakers’ LeBron James as well as teammate Cam Johnson.

He fell to the floor in pain, holding his shoulder/neck area before heading to the locker room. The Suns called the injury a right shoulder contusion.

Paul returned and played 20 second-half minutes, scoring four points and recording two assists. He finished with seven points and eight assists for the game.

The starting point guard was clearly impacted by the injury, favoring his left hand on dribbles and scuffling to keep control of dribbles or passes with his right hand.

His shot also looked awkward, though he managed to fling in a few mid-range jumpers after suffering the injury.

But Paul only had one turnover by the end of the game.

After the 99-90 Phoenix win, Paul said he expects to play Tuesday in Game 2.

“Absolutely,” the point guard said.

“I’ll be alright. I just kept thinking to myself, ‘Get through the game.'”
