When the 2021 NBA Playoffs began, the Phoenix Suns had the seventh-best odds (+1600) of taking home the championship, according to SportsBetting.ag.

After dismissing the reigning champion Los Angeles Lakers in the first round on Thursday night, their chances look a lot brighter.

Phoenix as of Friday morning sits fourth (+650) in terms of championship odds.

The No. 2 seed Suns head to the Western Conference Semifinals and are favorites (-215) to win the series against the No. 3 seed Denver Nuggets (+185). It’s a sudden shift after they were the first No. 2 seed in at least 30 years that was billed as the underdog against a No. 7 seed, according to ESPN Stats & Info, which uses Caesars William Hill lines.

Even after Phoenix took Game 1 of the first-round series, the Suns’ overall title odds increased to +1200 while the Lakers dropped to just +400.

Heading into Game 6, with Lakers star LeBron James struggling to fight through an ankle injury and Anthony Davis looking doubtful to play through a groin issue, Los Angeles remained a two-point favorite in that game.

The Suns went against the bettors again, taking the first-round series in Game 6 with a 113-100 win.

Here’s a look at the full championship odds after their Thursday win and a look back to what they were heading into the postseason, with odds via SportsBetting.ag.
