The Arizona Diamondbacks announced on Sunday that starting pitcher Merrill Kelly and left-hander Joe Mantiply were placed on the injured list, while LHP Miguel Aguilar and right-hander Sean Poppen were both recalled from Triple-A Reno.

Following the D-backs’ no-hit win over the San Diego Padres on Saturday night, manager Torey Lovullo announced Kelly had tested positive for COVID-19.

After Tyler Gilbert threw his no-hitter, it was revealed he did it without pitching coach Matt Herges, who missed the game due to contact tracing.

The Diamondbacks will go through further contact-tracing.

In 2021, Kelly has a 7-9 record with a 4.30 ERA in 142.1 innings pitched.

Kelly has been pitching his best as of late, having a 3-1 record in the month of July with a 3.55 in five starts.

He’s made two starts in the month of August, giving up five runs in 13 innings of work.

As part of the MLB’s health and safety protocols regarding COVID-19, Kelly will have to isolate for a minimum of 10 days and will at least miss his next two starts.

Kelly would have been scheduled to pitch on Tuesday against the Philadelphia Phillies.
