GLENDALE — It may not have counted in the win-loss column, but the team’s preseason loss to the Kansas City Chiefs was highlighted by the lackluster showing from the first-team offense last Friday.

There was even more emphasis on quarterback Kyler Murray’s play. In his first preseason action since 2019, Murray completed just one of his four passes for two yards and added eight more on the ground.

But while some may believe Murray needs another tune-up in the team’s preseason finale against the New Orleans Saints, head coach Kliff Kingsbury appears to not be one of them.

Continuing to keep his cards close to the vest, the head coach didn’t go as far as to say Murray would or would not suit up for Saturday’s exhibition following Tuesday’s practice.

Kingsbury did, however, say he doesn’t need to see Murray take any more preseason snaps this season.

Cardinals fans may not like it, but that’s likely music to Murray’s ears.

He’s let it be known that while preseason games can help you work on things live, he’s more than happy to sit back and wait for the regular season to roll around.

“At the end of the day, it’s reps, it’s live reps, so you take something away from it but like I said this doesn’t count,” Murray said last Tuesday. “I don’t know, that’s how I feel about it.”

EXTRA POINTS

– Linebacker Markus Golden returned to practice Tuesday. Kingsbury on Golden:

“Definitely brings a lot of juice so everybody’s excited. You definitely hear him when he’s back. He felt pretty good I think.”

– Though he isn’t sure on the exact day, Kingsbury expects linebacker Chandler Jones back at practice sometime this week.

– Kingsbury on defensive lineman Rashard Lawrence, who is expected back tomorrow in some capacity:

“We’ll start working him back in tomorrow, hopefully some limited stuff and then go from there.”

– While back on the practice field, Kingsbury is unsure if Justin Murray, Brian Winters and Golden will play Saturday.
