The Phoenix Suns announced on Thursday they have waived two-way guard Ty-Shon Alexander.

Alexander was entering his second season in the NBA after the Suns signed him on a two-way contract out of Creighton. The 23-year-old rookie didn’t crack Phoenix’s rotation, so the majority of his court time would come in the G League bubble.

In Orlando, he averaged 9.3 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game.

The guard was one of the two members of the Suns’ Summer League squad this summer from the team’s NBA roster. He posted 11.2 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists per outing.

With Alexander gone, the Suns have both of their two-way spots open on the roster, as well as one traditional roster spot, for a total of 14 players.

In July of last year, the Suns agreed to sell their G League team to the Detroit Pistons, who will move the franchise to Michigan after the 2020-21 season. The Northern Arizona Suns had already announced they would move to the Phoenix metro area and away from their home in Prescott Valley prior to the sale.

Phoenix general manager James Jones said in a statement after the sale that the NBA team’s “ownership and management of the Northern Arizona Suns does not align with the Phoenix Suns’ strategic plan for player development over the next three-to-five years.”

The Suns join the Portland Trail Blazers as the only NBA teams without a G League affiliate.
