The Arizona Cardinals have signed long snapper Kyle Nelson, tight end Alex Ellis and wide receiver Darrius Shepherd to the practice squad while activating tight end Demetrius Harris from the COVID-19 list, the team announced Wednesday.

Nelson was added after long snapper Aaron Brewer broke his arm and will miss several weeks, according to head coach Kliff Kingsbury. Nelson is a nine-year veteran who has played in 106 NFL games with the New Orleans Saints, San Diego Chargers, Washington Football Team and most recently seven seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. The team can elevate Nelson for this weekend’s game against the Carolina Panthers.

Harris missed Week 10 against the 49ers but has played a majority of his time on special teams with Arizona this year. The backup tight end has seen three targets and 124 snaps on offense (23%).

Ellis played in 11 games through his NFL career, totaling three catches for 11 yards in 2016 with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was previously on the Las Vegas Raiders, who waived him on Aug. 31 under an injury designation. The Cardinals currently have three tight ends on the active roster in Zach Ertz and Darrell Daniels.

Shepherd has appeared in 14 games over the last two seasons with the Green Bay Packers, catching six balls for 47 yards. The 5-foot-11 wideout also played on special teams, returning three punts for 19 yards and 20 kick returns for 374 yards.

Catch all the action as the Cardinals host the Panthers on Sunday at 2:05 p.m. MST on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station.
