With the NHL trade deadline hours away on Monday afternoon, the Arizona Coyotes were active on Sunday, trading for center Jack McBain from the Minnesota Wild, as first reported by Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli.

“We are very pleased to acquire Jack McBain,” Arizona general manager Bill Armstrong said in a press release Monday. “He is a big, strong, highly-skilled center who had a tremendous season with Boston College. We are thrilled to have him join our organization.”

The Coyotes acquired the forward prospect, who has yet to play in the NHL, for a second-round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft that belongs to the Vancouver Canucks. The Coyotes acquired that pick from Vancouver as part of the deal that shipped Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Conor Garland to the Canucks in the offseason.

Prior to acquiring McBain, the Coyotes had five second-round picks for the upcoming draft.

McBain, 22, was the No. 68 overall pick by the Wild in 2018 and just finished his collegiate career at Boston College where he scored 19 goals his senior season.

The center was also a representative for Team Canada in the 2022 Winter Olympics, scoring one goal and tallying an assist in four games.

Seravalli reports that McBain is expected to sign a new deal with the Coyotes.
