Social reactions: Suns eliminate Lakers from playoff contention once again

“Beat L.A.” is a chant every Valley sports fan should be well aware of.

And that’s exactly what the Phoenix Suns did on Tuesday night at Footprint Center to the tune of a 121-110 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers.

The win not only set the Suns’ franchise record for wins in a single season at 63, but it also resulted in the Lakers’ elimination from playoff contention this year.

That’s because the San Antonio Spurs defeated the Denver Nuggets earlier on Tuesday night and now have a three-game lead and the tiebreaker over the Lakers with only three games remaining in the regular season.

It also means that Lakers’ LeBron James — who didn’t play on Tuesday night due to an ankle injury — and Anthony Davis have been sent home packing for the second consecutive season by Phoenix after the Suns beat Los Angeles 4-2 in the first round of last year’s Western Conference playoffs.

And given Davis’ comments last month about how the Suns “got away with one” in that series, Twitter was ready to unleash once the Lakers were officially ousted from postseason contention:
