Former Arizona State Sun Devils tight end Curtis Hodges signed as an undrafted free agent with the Washington Commanders on Saturday, ASU football announced.

Hodges joins linebacker Darien Butler (Las Vegas Raiders) and offensive linemen Kellen Diesch (Miami Dolphins) and Dohnovan West (San Francisco 49ers) as former Sun Devils to have signed as UDFAs following the conclusion of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Hodges played for five seasons at ASU from 2017-2021 after graduating from Mountain View High School in Mesa.

The 6-foot-8, 257-pound Mesa native is coming off of his best year at Arizona State as a graduate student.

Hodges compiled 374 receiving yards on 20 receptions and two touchdowns in 12 games played (10 starts) in his final season in Tempe.

The former Arizona State TE also received honorable mention All-Pac-12 as a result of his 2021 season.

Unfortunately for Hodges and the Sun Devils, a car accident caused him to miss the penultimate game of the regular season due to precautionary concussion measures.

At the time of the incident, the tight end was ASU’s second-leading receiver and led the team with 18.7 yards per reception.

At the NFL Combine, Hodges ran a 4.85 40-yard dash to go along with a 34.5-inch vertical jump.

And while he wasn’t projected to be drafted by NFL Network draft analyst Lance Zierlein, he was deemed as a priority free agent.

Pass-catching tight end with intriguing blend of length and athleticism. Hodges’ failure to live up to his potential at Arizona State was partially due to a slew of nagging injuries that kept him off the field. He’s a legitimate seam threat with open-field separation speed and an expansive catch radius but he will need to improve as a route runner and blocker to be viewed as an NFL tight end. Hodges’ injury history will be a concern, but his athletic traits and size could make him a candidate for a practice squad.
