The Arizona Cardinals activated tight end Maxx Williams from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list on Thursday, a sign he is on track for the start of the regular season after suffering a knee injury 10 months ago.

Williams tore his ACL in Week 5 last season, an Oct. 10, 2021, victory against the San Francisco 49ers.

He was on pace for a career year before the injury, with 193 receiving yards and a touchdown on 16 catches (17 targets).

Despite his knee injury, Williams signed a one-year deal to return to the franchise this offseason.

He joins a deep tight end room.

Pass-catching specialist Zach Ertz re-signed with the team after Arizona last season traded for him mid-year, and Cardinals general manager Steve Keim also used his second-round pick on the first tight end selected in the 2022 NFL Draft, Colorado State product Trey McBride.

Additionally, Arizona signed 29-year-old Stephen Anderson as a free agent. He has 61 games of NFL experience over four years.

The 28-year-old Williams signed with the Cardinals in 2019 and has been a trusted blocking-oriented tight end when healthy, but he’s also flashed his hands in 30 career games with Arizona.

For his career, he has 497 yards over three seasons each with the Baltimore Ravens and Cardinals.
