Arizona Cardinals cornerback Antonio Hamilton shared an update on Tuesday that the burned skin on his arms and legs is 90% healed after Hamilton had an accident with hot oil in his kitchen.

Hamilton noted on Tuesday that part of his progress includes being able to put shoes on again.

Hamilton was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list on Monday, meaning he will miss at least the first four games of the season.

“We’re hoping walkthroughs here in the near future to keep the mental sharp,” head coach Kliff Kingsbury said on Monday of the plan with Hamilton. “We do a bunch of walkthroughs in the indoor, but we’ll see.

“It’s uncharted territory for me and I think for a lot people around here to see how that’s all going to heal up and then the timetable on it.”

It’s a big blow to a Cardinals secondary that Hamilton was projected to start in. Kingsbury had spoken positively about the way Hamilton had separated himself from Marco Wilson and other corners for the starting job on the other side of Byron Murphy Jr. throughout training camp and the preseason.

Hamilton tweeted a photo of his injuries (Warning: Graphic images) and wrote the following on Twitter:

“Had the greatest camp of my career & last Monday I had (an) accident that could’ve ended up deadly for me & my family but instead I got the short end of it by having my feet severely burned (2nd degree),” he wrote. “It was literally a freak accident and God spared me to only have these injuries.”

Playing in 17 games (two starts) in Arizona last year, Hamilton posted 38 tackles to go along with one tackle for loss, four passes defended and one forced fumble. He saw 312 snaps (29% of available reps) on defense and 208 (47%) on special teams.

Two days prior to the designation for Hamilton, the Cardinals traded for cornerback Trayvon Mullen Jr. from the Las Vegas Raiders.

On the Cardinals’ Week 1 depth chart, Murphy and Wilson are listed as the two starters.
