The Arizona Diamondbacks recalled outfielder Jordan Luplow from Triple-A Reno on Monday, the team announced.

In a corresponding move, the D-backs designated infielder Wilmer Difo for assignment to bring the 40-man roster to 39.

Luplow is returning to the big league club after getting optioned down on Aug. 29. The right-handed hitter had a 1.089 OPS and six home runs in addition to 14 RBIs in 10 games in the minors.

But the soon-to-be 30-year-old has struggled mightily in his lone season with the Diamondbacks.

In 178 at-bats over 73 MLB games, Luplow has only mustered a slash line of .163/.261/.376 for a .637 OPS.

His .163 batting average is the worst in franchise history for a batter with a minimum of 150 at-bats.

Luplow only has 29 hits, 16 for extra bases, which include 11 home runs to go along with 27 RBIs, 21 walks and five stolen bases in an Arizona uniform. He has also struck out 54 times this season, which accounts for 30% of his at-bats.

The D-backs host the Los Angeles Dodgers at Chase Field in the first of a three-game series on Monday night at 6:40 p.m. on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station.

Arizona right-handed pitcher Ryne Nelson (1-0, 0.00 ERA) is scheduled to start against L.A. left-handed pitcher Tyler Anderson (14-3, 2.73 ERA).
